Marvel Cosmic Invasion - Demo Review
Recently, I downloaded the demo for the newest game from Marvel Studios, Cosmic Invasion. A classic beat-em-up arcade game, currently showcasing 8 heroes: Captain America, Nova, Storm, Venom, Wolverine, Phyla-Vell, Spider-Man, Rocket Raccoon, and She-Hulk. It was incredible...
All I can say is that I cannot wait for the full release. The combat was smooth, fluid and fun. During my playthrough, I played as Rocket, Wolverine, Cap and Spidey, and there wasn’t a single thing I didn’t like. The two boss fights I had were against Beetle in New York City and Taskmaster on a S.H.I.E.L.D. airship, and they were extremely fun. The ability to choose two heroes to team up and jump into battle with is creative and delivers diverse combat experiences. Furthermore, being able to change your characters after dying enables even more diversity in the style of play.
Rocket’s arsenal of electric bombs and guns led to explosive battles, including double-jumping in the air with his jetpack and landing on enemies and dealing powerful scratch attacks. Coupled with Spidey and his webswinging powers, trapping enemies with webs and then attacking with the final blows feels addictive, and not to mention the ability to deliver swinging kicks. After finishing the first level, I switched up my party and played through the airship as Wolverine and Cap. It felt incredibly rewarding charging at enemies with my claws out, rapidly slashing, or using his grab ability to attack with a flurry of blows. Then Cap, throwing his shield around, was amazing, watching it ricochet off enemies and using it to stun them multiple times in a row. Then also using his standard attacks to swing the shield to fight multiple enemies at once. I can’t wait to see the other characters’ abilities and what other heroes are added to the roster.
In terms of graphics, there's not too much to go into. The pixel design is absolutely iconic, seeing it develop from classic titles like; Street Fighter, Turtles in Time or Streets of Rage, to more recent games of the same style of TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge or Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game. It’s a beautiful game, the character design is on point, bringing renowned Marvel characters to life in a new style. I thoroughly enjoyed my time with this demo.
Overall, this game is great. I can’t wait to get my hands on the full experience.
